Frequently Asked Questions
Author Specific Questions
Why was my book chosen for inclusion?
We have tried to make available a wide cross-section of our research publishing and felt that your book would be a strong addition to the publishing in your subject area.
Can I make any changes to the paperback version before it is published?
No. The paperback version has to be identical to the hardback version for the print-on-demand technology to be cost-effective.
What will the cover be like for the new paperback and can I make any changes to this?
No, it will not be possible to make any changes. The paperback cover will either be identical to the hardback cover or will be a standard template design.
My book was not included in the initial Routledge Paperbacks Direct programme. Will it be published at a later date?
It may well be but you should contact your editor to discuss this further. Publishing more books in the programme is dependent upon the initial selection selling successfully. Obviously, the more you can do to let colleagues know about the programme, the better the books will sell and we can then publish more titles including your own book.
I have published another book in hardback only with Routledge. Will this be published in paperback by Routledge Paperbacks Direct?
As above - it may well be, but you should contact your editor to discuss this further. Publishing more books in the programme is dependent upon the initial selection selling successfully. Obviously, the more you can do to let colleagues know about the availability of your book in paperback, the more likely it is that it will sell and we will include your other books in the Routledge Paperbacks Direct programme.
Can my university library buy copies of my paperback book?
No. The Routledge Paperbacks Direct website is aimed at individual purchase only. We would still expect libraries to buy the hardback version of the book.
What should I do if I want to use the paperback as the textbook for my course?
Your students will be able to order the book directly from the Routledge Paperbacks Direct website www.routledgepaperbacksdirect.com
How many complimentary copies of the book will I receive?
This will depend on the terms in the contract for your hardback book. Most authors will receive at least six paperback copies.
Can I order additional copies of my book?
Yes. Just go to the dedicated Routledge Paperbacks Direct website www.routledgepaperbacksdirect.com
Am I still eligible for an author discount?
Yes.
What marketing are you doing for the Routledge Paperbacks Direct programme?

Advertisements for paperbacks direct will be placed in relevant journals and in all our subject catalogues. We will have banner ads and links on appropriate Routledge websites to the Routledge Paperbacks Direct site. The programme will also be advertised at all conferences attended by Routledge.
Will my paperback book be listed on Amazon?
No. Customers can ONLY order the book directly from the Routledge Paperbacks Direct website.
Will copies of my paperback book be sent to relevant conferences?
No.
What can I do to publicize my own paperback book?
